How to Increase Instagram Reels Views: What Actually Moves the Number

20 September 2026 · 7 min read

Reels views go up when two things happen: people keep watching past the first three seconds, and people do something after watching (like, save, share, comment, reply). Instagram tests every Reel on a small group first, and it only pushes it to a bigger group if that small group watched and reacted. So to increase Instagram Reels views, you work on the hook, the watch time, and the reaction, in that order.

Here is what moves each one, without buying views or posting five times a day.

1. Win the first three seconds

Most people decide to scroll or stay before your Reel has finished its first sentence. The opening frame and the first line of on-screen text do most of the work.

2. Get people to watch it twice

Watch time is counted per view, and a Reel that loops cleanly gets watched twice without the viewer deciding to. Short, clean loops (7 to 15 seconds) with the ending flowing back into the start do this on their own. Longer Reels work too, but only when every few seconds gives the viewer a reason to keep going: a step, a reveal, a number.

3. Ask for a comment, then answer it

Comments and replies are the reaction Instagram weighs heavily, and they are the one you can ask for directly. A caption that says "comment GUIDE and I'll send it to you" does three things: it gets a comment, it gets you a reply (a second engagement on the same Reel), and it gives the viewer a reason to come back to the post.

The catch is that a hundred "GUIDE" comments need a hundred replies, and nobody does that by hand at midnight. That is why creators automate the reply. Tem watches your Reel for the keyword and sends each commenter a DM with the link, free, so the engagement loop runs while you sleep. There is a full walk-through in how to auto-DM people who comment on your Reel.

4. Post when your audience is on, then reply for 30 minutes

The first hour matters because that is when the test group sees it. Post when your Insights show your followers are active, then stay in the comments for half an hour. Replies from you in that window count as engagement and pull the Reel into more feeds.

5. Use one strong topic per account

Instagram shows Reels to people who have watched similar Reels. An account that posts cooking on Monday, gym on Wednesday and vlogs on Friday confuses that matching. Pick a lane for a month and watch the average view count rise.

6. Stop doing these

What a realistic timeline looks like

Most accounts see views change within two to four weeks of tightening hooks and asking for comments consistently. Not every Reel will take off. The goal is to raise the floor (what a normal Reel gets) so that when one does hit, your comment-to-DM setup catches every lead it brings. See how comments become followers for the follow-up step.

FAQ

Why are my Reels getting 0 views or very few views?

Usually one of three things: the first three seconds do not stop the scroll, the Reel is being shown to the wrong people because your account posts about many unrelated topics, or the video was reposted with a watermark. Fix the hook first, it is the biggest lever.

Do comments increase Reels views?

Yes. Comments and replies are engagement signals Instagram uses to decide whether to push a Reel to a wider audience. Asking viewers to comment a keyword, and replying to each one, is the most reliable way to raise both.

Does asking people to comment a keyword look spammy?

Not when the keyword unlocks something they actually want, like a guide, a recipe, or a product link. It looks spammy when the thing on the other side of the comment is nothing.

How many Reels should I post a week?

Three to five good ones beat ten rushed ones. Consistency matters more than volume, and a strong hook on each Reel matters more than either.
