Meta Business Agent is Meta's own AI assistant for businesses. It sits inside your Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger inboxes, answers customer questions, recommends products from your catalogue, books appointments and hands off to a person when it is stuck. It launched globally in June 2026 after pilots in India, Mexico and Brazil, and since August 2026 it is billed by usage (Meta prices it per million tokens, which works out to a few cents per reply). This guide explains what it is for, and why it is not the same thing as a comment-to-DM funnel.
What Business Agent is good at
- Answering repeat questions from people who already messaged you: hours, sizes, shipping, "is this available".
- Catalogue answers if you run a shop with products loaded into Meta.
- Booking and lead qualification for service businesses with a steady inbox.
What it is not
It is a responder for conversations that already exist. It does not watch your Reel for a keyword, it does not turn a public comment into a private DM with your link, it does not ask the commenter to follow you first, and it does not tell you which Reel produced the clicks. Those are the jobs of a comment-to-DM tool, and they happen before Business Agent would ever see the person.
What it costs
Usage-based. Meta bills per million tokens processed (a token is roughly a word fragment), which Meta and press coverage at launch put at a few cents per reply. That is cheap per message and adds up on a busy inbox; there is no flat plan. Prices change, so check Meta's current pricing page before budgeting.
Do creators need it?
Most creators do not, yet. Their inbox problem is not a flood of support questions; it is a flood of "link?" comments after a Reel works, and those people have not messaged anything. The comment is the trigger. A creator selling a course or a product with real customer questions may want Business Agent later for the follow-up conversation.
How the two fit together
- Someone comments LINK on your Reel.
- Tem DMs them your link within seconds, asks them to follow first if you want, and tracks the open. Free to start.
- If they reply with a question, that is now a conversation in your inbox, where you (or, if you turn it on, Business Agent) answer.
Tem stays Instagram-only and never charges per message, so the front of the funnel costs the same whether ten people or ten thousand comment. See Instagram's built-in comment to message automation for Meta's free option at the front, and the tool comparison for the rest.
